Boyd celebrated his 80th birthday with his family at Maddox. He was born on May 25, 1938, to Edgar and Mildred Russell. He had four brothers and one sister: Earl, Ken, Ray, Don and Verla.

He is now the patriarch of the family, having many nieces and nephews. He graduated from Weber High in 1956. He served two years in the Navy. In 1964, he married RaLene Waldron in the Salt Lake Temple. He built their home himself in Taylor, where they raised their family: Chad, Derk, Cindy and Dusten. They have one daughter-in-law (Ally), eight grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

He has a love for horses and enjoys working with leather. He and his wife have enjoyed bowling, dancing, camping and traveling with family and friends. Boyd retired in 2004, as a computer specialist at Hill Air Force Base.

He served two summers as a missionary at Martin's cove in Wyoming, where he gained a love for the pioneers and made many life long friendships. One of his choice experiences was serving in the Ogden temple for two years. His greatest enjoyment comes from spending time with his family.
